The Gypsy Queen Cultural Perspective

“The Gypsy Queen” created by an ancient Mexican village has many examples of aspects of ancient Latino cultures. One main example in this story is the fact that there is a king, which would have probably been a common thing during that time period. Also, back in ancient Mexico, the prince, or king was allowed to choose whatever bride he would like no matter whether or not she approved, just like in this folktale. Another cultural perspective shown in “The Gypsy Queen” is that the gypsy’s were always looked down upon in these civilizations, and the jobs that they could have were small peasant jobs like selling bread. The other characteristic that the story portrays about the gypsies is that they are witches and liars who will do whatever they can to get what they desire. Gypsy’s were not allowed to marry royalty during that time period, which is why the gypsy girl was severely punished in the story for her crime. Finally, being killed or tortured was a usual punishment in this time period, and also in the story when the gypsy was burned at the stake for tricking the prince.
